There will water stations, during the race, at the Wessex Water HydroZones around the course at Stanley Lane (3 miles), Moravian Church (6 miles), Avon (8 miles), Langley Road (11.5 miles) and the runners’ village at Chippenham Cricket Club.
A map of the course can be found here so you can see where the route goes. On the day the route will be well marked with marshalls present at junctions and turns to tell you which way to go. Mile markers will also be placed on the course so you will know how far you have run.
For safety reasons the organisers of the Chippenham Half Marathon ask you NOT to use music players whilst running in this event.
It is imperative that all runners are aware of their environment and can hear instructions from marshals and police.
Yes, male and female changing tents will be available before and after the race at the Chippenham Sports Club. Once you've changed you will be able to leave your bag in our storage tent if you need to - see below.
Chippenham is close to the M4 and on the main railway line from London to Bristol. The train station is only a short walk from the start and finish. If you are coming by car, please car share if possible. Full details of how to get to the Chippenham Half Marathon can be found here.
The race will start on Bristol Road but you should make your way initially to the Chippenham Sports Club where you will find changing facilities, baggage storage and toilets. The pre-race briefing will take place in front of the Chippenham Sports Club pavillion after which you will be asked to line up according to your expected finish time on Bristol Road.
Race numbers will be collected on the day of the event, from the race village. Be sure you turn up in good time. Sunday morning registration will open at 07:45 on the field. There will be an opportunity to pick them up the day before at the Sports and Social club, between 12:00 - 15:00.
If you are new to running and want some help with you training and preparation for the race then why not have a look at our beginners training programme. More experienced runners may be interested in our advanced training programme.
Yes, running is fun and we want to make it a fun day for everybody. If you would like to run in fancy dress then we welcome it but please remember that we would like you to finish within 3 hours 20 minutes so no costumes that will slow you down too much!
Toilets are always a big issue at races! Toilets will be available at a number of locations in and around the Chippenham Sports Club site. We are confident that we have got the numbers right so there should be more than enough to go around!! Please make sure that you do use the facilities available and that you leave yourself ample time before the start of the race.
The roads will be closed as you run through the town centre but after that there will be light traffic. Busy junctions will be controlled by the police and marshalls. Please ensure that you follow their directions.
You have a choice just before you reach East Tytherton. You can either take a short cut by turning left and cutting out the 'Avon Loop' or you can elect to do the full distance. Each option has consequences. If you take the short cut you will not have completed the half marathon and will be declared DNF (did not finish) in the results. If you do the full distance, there will be reduced or no marshalling and the race village may be a little depleted on your arrival. If you manage to maintain at least a 'brisk walking' pace you should be able to finish within the cut off time.
If you are unable to finish the race for whatever reason you should report to the nearest marshall who will arrange for you to be transported back to the finish. If you are unable to make it to a marshall then remain where you are and wait for one of our sweep vehicles.
There will be ample parking available on the Sheldon school campus. Please follow the signposts that will be placed on all the major routes into Chippenham. A map and details of where to park can be found here. In addition parking can be found in one of the many town centre car parks which are a short walk from the race start.
