Road Closures and Diversions

To ensure the safety of competitors and spectators road closures will be in operation at the very start of the Chippenham Half Marathon between 9:00am and 10:00am and as the runners head back towards the finish from 10:30am to 1:30pm. All affected roads will be opened as soon as the runners have passed through and it is safe to do so. Access for residents will be available but you may be asked to wait until it is safe to proceed. Warning signs will be put up on affected streets several weeks before the race and we are working closely with Wiltshire Council, Wiltshire Police and other agencies to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum.

Saturday 10th September 2011
Cones will be placed on Bristol Road (A420) from the Folly roundabout at the junction with Hardenhuish Lane down to Chippenham Sports Club during Saturday evening to prevent parking and will be removed once the race has started.

Sunday 11th September 2011
9:00am to 10:00am - Bristol Road (A420) will be closed to all through traffic from the Folly roundabout at the junction with Hardenhuish Lane to the junction with Woodlands Road. At 9:30am all of Bristol Road, Park Lane, New Road, The Causeway and London Road to the junction with Pewsham Way will be closed just before the race starts and will be reopened as soon as the runners have passed through and it is safe to do so.

Stanley Lane and the route through the villages of Tytherton Lucas, East Tytherton, Avon and Langley Burrell will be open to traffic at all times. However, large numbers of runners will be on this part of the course from about 10:00am until 12:00pm so traffic will be asked to wait until it is safe to proceed. Drivers are asked to avoid this area and use an alterntive route if possible.

Runners will be crossing Swindon Road (B4069) where Hill Corner Road joins it from about 10:30am until about 1.00pm. Traffic will be asked to wait until there is a safe gap in the runners crossing the road before proceeding.

10:30am to 1:30pm - Malmesbury Road (B4158) will be closed to all through traffic from the junction with Hardenhuish Lane to the junction with Park Lane and Langley Road. An alternative route is available via New Road, Marshfield Road and Bristol Road.

Please note access for residents will be available but you will be asked to wait until it is safe to proceed..

The times shown are based on the Chippenham Half Marathon starting at 9:30am. Should the start of the race be delayed for any reason then the times shown may vary.

We are working hard to ensure that the Chippenham Half Marathon will cause a minimum of disruption to residents and we thank you in anticipation of your support and apologize for any inconvenience caused.
